C. thoughts:
- words of wisdom i received this week.
- the primary goal is training you (me) to get off the couch, out of the house, & consistently do something. this will be 3-4-5 times a week.
- don’t try to do more than what we’re doing right now.
- speed, distance don’t matter right now, what matters is you are working towards spending 2+ hours on your feet, moving. if you can’t walk for that long you sure as hell can’t run for that long.
- i feel pretty good about how things went. not to say there wasn’t a struggle within to finish or start, but i did that. finish. start.
- i went out Monday, Tuesday, Thursday this week. Wednesday, michael couldn’t go until late, & I had quite a bit of hip pain. legs, back, & feet were good.
- i learned that socks matter. i wore a pair of hanes bamboo socks that i like & learned they slide when you walk with pace. no blisters formed, thankfully, so back to the fancy running/walking socks. will consider getting higher ankled versions soon, the heal of my shoes could rub.

post #001a – in the beginning 20250702
i decided to document some stuff i’m doing, i’m going through, or whatever – so here it goes. i’m not entirely sure what this will look like, but hopefully it will be at least somewhat linear & easy to follow. post #001b will have pictures in it. i’m separating because maybe you don’t care to see what’s in them. some of the posts will be made after the fact, or the date in the header won’t match the timestamp it gets posted. so much for linear…
it isn’t a crisis. yet. yeah, there’s some not-so-great stuff, but nothing presently dire. some of it has been going on for years, decades even. if memory serves, the 1st time my cholesterol tested high was back in around 2010-2012. i was put on pravastatin by my doctor. i was non-compliant, which given my career field, either ironic or par for the course. fast forward to more recent times, last year & this year. labs were bad, again or still, who knows. last year, my doctor didn’t add the a1c; this year i inquired & it was added. i got the diabetes diagnosis i knew was coming. i was prescribed metformin. i’ve been compliant this time. there’s a hint of fatty liver, & my cholesterol/hdl/ldl levels are all bad, not bad enough for medication intervention at this time. working on the diabetes, taking the metformin – these can reduce the fatty liver stuff & can help with the cholesterol/hdl/ldl stuff as well. i like foods that are bad for me, i’m working on it, pinky swear. diabetes runs on both sides of the family tree. along with the medication i added a multivitamin, am trying to eat healthier (no more weekly pizza), & with the help of my brother, Blayn, & Amanda, i’m currently training to run the Shiner Half Marathon in November. feel like joining? sign up under me. there will be a link somewhere.
the next post will have screenshots of the lab values from last & this year as well as maybe pictures of me from 2010-2012 & more recent as a way of documenting the changes that hopefully are occurring. see you on the next post.
tl/dr;
-this is going to be a bumpy ride, i’ll try to dodge the potholes.
-history of bad dietary choices & maybe some genetics are involved.
-decided to make some changes. med compliance, better food choices, running a half marathon.
-next up: pictures from 2010-2012 vs recent, lab values, weight loss tracking.
